Free "Introduction to Green Building" Seminar in Mandarin First Event of its Kind for Mandarin-Speaking Residents

MILLBRAE, Calif. - For the first time, San Mateo County will highlight innovative green-building techniques for Mandarin-speaking residents at a free seminar May 9 in Millbrae.

The event will showcase how to use recycled, reusable and sustainable materials for new construction and remodeling. The entire program will be conducted in Mandarin in recognition of San Mateo County's diversity.

Building officials from San Jose, Palo Alto and Atherton will provide an overview of Green Building products and practices, discuss relevant Federal, State and local legislation, and speak about resources for becoming trained and certified as green building professionals.

With federal stimulus money coming to local governments for facility upgrades and potential new green building policies designed to allow homeowners to upgrade their homes at little or no cost, in the near future, many anticipate a green building boom in the Bay Area.

"Building Green is a great way in which residents and businesses can reduce climate change. It is important to design and remodel buildings that will improve energy efficiency, decrease water usage, improve indoor air quality, and increase the use of recycled materials in the construction," said President Mark Church of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.

The seminar will be held at the Chetcuti Community Room at 450 Poplar Ave. in Millbrae on Saturday, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. The seminar is co-sponsored by the City of Millbrae.
